Has anyone had or heard of an issue with a Powershot G15 getting stuck with the focus locked? Mine has been doing this a lot recently and sometimes a quick double tap of the shutter will fix it and other times it remains stuck until the picture is taken. When it is stuck it won't let me zoom or review photos.

I'm wondering if this is a mechanical issue in the shutter button or if there's some setting that I'm unaware of and somehow I'm activating that.

Are you sure you are not accidently putting the camera in manual focus?

No, I'm sure of that. It just makes the autofocus beep sound and the focus square turns green and it stays that way even if I let off the shutter. I'm thinking it's just getting a little worn out as I've used it quite a bit over the last few months.

Still doing this occasionally. I've learned to just tap the shutter button lightly until it goes back to normal. I'm sure it's a mechanical issue with the button considering how much I've used it but it's not a big enough nuisance to warrant replacing the camera just yet.

oh my gosh. we have the same problem. I thought I had done something wrong with the settings but after I've reset it to default nothing changed. And also when I use the flash, the light near the viewfinder just stays orange. It's become really bothersome because of that. What I just do is that I continually take photos and then it would be returning to normal again. Please mail me if you have found any solution. thanks

Didnt I read in another thread that yours is a high mileage camera? Pro level use 1000-1500 shots per day?

It does have a lot of use so that's why I'm assuming it's a mechanical issue. When I started the thread I was mainly checking to see if there was some setting I had missed to cause a focus lock.

it actually helps to turn auto focus settings off such as AF and Servo.
Although, I'd agree with ib2loud that I too don't usually use my camera on that range of shots more of less than 300 a day but it still experiences the lock.

I guess when one of the people with this problem gets thier camera back from Canon we will be anxious to know what they found. It may need a firmware update or something.

I'm not sure of the cost it would take to send it to Canon to be fixed but I'm guessing it will outweigh the actual value of the camera and being without it for a few days. I honestly just think it's something inside the shutter button or contacts from normal heavy use but it just seems really random when it will happen. Sometimes it will go a few hundred shots and not do it at all and others it'll do it 3 or 4 times in a row but it always stops with a few quick autofocus taps on the shutter (not all the way to actually take the picture). I figure eventually it's going to just lock up permanently and then it'll be time to decide if I want to fix or replace.

Id try a remote shutter release and see if it happens with it.

That's a good idea. I hadn't thought of that.
