So my old 400D is better than the new 100D, right?! ???

man. the naming on these things is getting confusing for new photogs picking up a DSLR from canon!

Naming with canon is quite simple:

3 digit models (600D, 400D, 100D) are lowest on the ladder
2 digit models (70D, 60D) next up
1 digit models (6D, 5D, 1D) even higher up

and the lower the number the better the specs in their respective categories (so 5D is better than 6D but 1D is better than 5D)

This is all spec wise though, not personal preference as many users would disagree with this whole post!

The names aren't confusing at all....

What is confusing is a smaller rebel; why? They (The Rebels) are so tiny already!

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

I am very thankful! I'm a professional skydiver that takes a lot of freefall photographs. Considering that the camera is mounted on my helmet, my neck is very excited to see even smaller and lighter cameras coming out!

True; but the GoPro 3 Black is even more potent than a Canon DSLR, when it comes to video.

(At least it appears to be, spec-wise. I've not used the 3 yet.)

Sorry, I forgot to turn my sarcasm off. I leave him on from time to time.

My point is that there is a 350D -> 400D -> 450D -> 500D -> 550D -> 600D -> 650D -> 700D

Wiki of Canon DSLR Timeline (external link)

THEN you add in a 100D... naming is just wierd IMO.

I understand how Canon models work but again i stand by my statement that it can be confusing to people on the model name structure when they have a XXXD line currently at 650D set up and then they start a whole new line at 100D.

100D looks like a nice backup body. Light, and doesn't take up much space.

Sad that it has better AF then my 5D2

You should be happy that technology is moving forward fast.
Imagine at this rate, 3-4 years from now, a Rebel body will have better AF than my 5D3.
That would be awesome!

The funny thing, is the literature i was reading was wrong. It has the same AF system as the 5D2.

the T5i has a better AF system however.
