Saw the Wolverine 20mp slide scanner at Costco for $79 and was looking for anyone who has actually used one of sample scans. From what I can gather this is not a true scanner but a camera type system. I've been scanning using my Epson v500 which does a decent enough job but it's tedious and very slow. This looks to be a decent enough option especially to do quick scans.

Anyone actually use one?

The general consensus is that it's marginally better than a camera+macro lens ghetto rig, but not great at all for preserving good color balance or sharpness.

I thought you gave up on film photography

Epic battle in my mind of whether to focus more on portraiture or architecture. #FirstWorldProblems

I have thousands and thousands of slides and negatives as I have become the family archive. I've been using a V500 which works well but is so slow. Ive been thinking about putting together a rig to use my 100 macro and this seems like a decent enough alternative if it can do what it claims to do.

The problem with this scanner is it will never serve me, why? Because simply i shoot only 120/220 or say MF and also sheets with LF, so no 35mm yet.

I have lots of 120 as well and my V500 has done a pretty decent job with those.

I am not talking about Epson scanner, i am talking about this Wolverine scanner you mentioned, i have Epson V750 Pro which is flawless for large format and decent for 120, and it can do 35mm but all say it is not great for 35mm.

I understand what you were saying. I have lots of 120 but tons of 35mm and slides that's why I was looking into it. My Epson V500 does just fine with 35mm and slides but it's just so slow. I was looking at this option to do quick scans which probably would do fine for most of them and then the ones that are special, do a better scan and restore them.

Why not look for something better option and more expensive, Plustek OpticFilm 8200i will be better for 35mm for some reasons, but i know you will not go that much if you don't need to, or go with very expensive one that can scan up to 120mm too, Plustek OpticFilm 120, i am looking for to get this one to be my dedicated 120 scanner and great for 35mm too, i will keep my V750 for LF sheets only then.

Cost. Most of the old negatives and slides I have are family snapshots taken with 35mm point and shoot cameras and are not of exceptional quality to begin with. The Plustek runs about $400 and it too is pretty slow.

So, my thinking is that if I can get %90 of the quality of a Plustec with 10x the speed why spend $400 when $70 will get me +90% in a lot less time. That's why I was asking if anyone has used one and has some real samples. The ones I have seen googling are all so shrunk down that it's hard to evaluate.
