Hi everyone,

What would you pay for a 1D Mark II N which has to have the shutter replaced?

Besides the shutterproblem it is in perfect mint condition. I have 3 extra batteries, the charger, original box and the strap.

I am the second owner.

(I have written to Visual Service(official Canon repair store in DK) to ask for a repair price to see if it would pay to get it fixed, so please tell me what you would pay for one with a completely new shutter) :)

I cannot confirm 'mint' on a busted camera. So when you try to sell me a busted camera I have to discount the cost of the known problem (shutter) plus the chance that the camera is otherwise toast and will require massive repairs.

I dunno why people try to sell busted stuff. If you have a $1000 camera that needs a $200 repair, nobody in their right mind is going to give you anywhere near $800 for that camera because then 100% of the repair risk transfers to the buyer. Buyers will discount heavily for this risk and offer you peanuts.

If the camera is really fine and you want to sell it then the smart move is to have it repaired and then sell it for the going rate.

All right, thank you for you comment. I have taken good care of the camera and it is looking really nice, no scratches at all. What would you pay if i chose to get it repaired?

New shutter? Good condition? no warranty? £400 tops. I sold my 1D2N last year to someone from here (no charger) for £150. I can buy a warrantied example for this http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk …cameras/canon-eos-1d-iin/ (external link)

Not putting the camera down, I loved mine!

I'd pay less than the cost of the current street price - repair cost as I'd have the hassle of getting the repair done and the potential there might be other things wrong.

On the other side I might be willing to pay slightly more(high side of current street prices) for one that has just been sent in to be repaired as it's just been tested and wouldn't any unknown potential issues.

Okay, thanks for your response :)

I'll wait and see what Visual Service says a repair would be :)

I was thinking of selling my MkII since I have moved on and have a pair of bodies that render the MkII not only redundant, but obsolete.

Then i looked at the sad state of the going rate for a used one....

It became clear that it is worth more to me as an emergency back up, or even future gift to an upcoming your photographer, than the $300.00 or so I would get for it.
