Shortcourse Off Road Racing from Firebird Raceway

I went out the first weekend of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing series at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, AZ. Former Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson came out to shoot on Sunday and I had the opportunity to chat with him about photography & baseball between races. It was a pretty cool experience.

Here are 8 of my favorites from the weekend:

1. - 7D 300mm f/2.8 w/ 1.4 TC, 1/100 sec

I wanted to go so bad that weekend!! Had to settle for a 24hour vegas run full of gambling and beer. I will be at Elsinore next month.

Nice series as always. Makes me jealous, I want to go shoot short course so bad. Got TORC coming to the area in a couple of weeks but I'm already committed to a Dirt Riot race downstate on the same day.

Would love to go to one of these events oneday, however a little far for a go see from Oz. Like some of the panning shots, however a couple of the other shots feel a little bit to tight. #2 for example would look pretty cool if you could see the shadow for the truck in front.

As for quality of the shots, very nice!

If you are not aware, Australia has off road racing along the same lines as we do here. I don't know how close you are to the races, but it's worth checking out.

nice pics. the big unit is pretty into photography. hes an nhra credentialed photog too. wonder if he's on here...
