So I just don't understand this comment - really confused and I do hope oldvultureface is totally wrong?l

I was responding to mike1812's suggestion to use a Sonia optical trigger. My comment has no relevance when using the 7D's popup as master and the 430 and 600 as slaves.

I believe that oldvultureface was referring to my comment about using the flashzebra hotshoe adapter. Using that, you would be limited to manual mode to avoid the "preflash" signal sent. As I generally use ONLY manual mode, this makes no difference to me. However, since you specifically want to use ETTL, I'm not 100% certain what would happen. I am hoping to do some test shooting this weekend and will try the combination (though my 430 is an EX, not EXII) to see what happens and get you an answer.

Thanks guys that makes sense - stupid me.
But one can't take anything for granted when it comes to compatibility!

Still can't understand why one loses a stop with the STE-3 and pre 2011 cameras, moreso with the 7D's firmware upgrade in 2012!
