Not funny in the least. Hopefully that hook will rust and break before the leader and lead shot gets hung up under water during a dive. If this bird is a regular at this location you could contact wildlife management in the area and see if they would be willing to try and capture the bird. Its not an easy task but it's worth asking about.

I think so. The title is funny when i saw the cormorant. Other than that i feel sorry to the bird.

Sadly this is not a rare occurrence. It seems to happen most often on the still waters of lakes where someone will reel a fish in which splashes about and breaks the surface of the water, the bird sees this as an easy meal and next thing you know the bird has swallowed the fish and the hook is embedded.

Was expecting something else when I read the thread title, in that way, can't blame someone for thinking it's funny. But the photo doesn't make me feel good for sure.

I agree, no humor here. But, there is a silver lining as mentioned.
Hooks nowadays are designed to rust fairly quickly, but not sure how long it would take with a bird. In a fish (constantly in water) they disintegrate within a couple of weeks. It's been a boost to the fish population recovery efforts.
