So I currently have:
60D
18-200 3.5-5.6
50 1.8
Tamron 70-300 VC 4-5.6

Which is the better decision? Upgrade glass to the 70-200 2.8 OR upgrade to full frame with L glass at f/4?

I would like a setup that helps create good outdoor portraits. I know that FF offers the ability to have a shallower DOF, but then again I would be giving up the 70-200 2.8 for a 24-105 f/4.

I would really appreciate some help here. :D

I guess I'd vote full frame. One option related to that -though you'd lose the flexibility of the zoom- is right now you could get a refurb 5D II + 135L for the same as these options. Not sure you could beat that image quality on outside portraits.

I think your 60D is a very good camera, so for now id try and invest more money in really good quality glass. Then upgrade your camera body later.

At the end of the day im sure you'll end up with 'the best of both' lol... but id wait until the 5D3's are cheaper no need for the very latest and greatest, the lens price isnt likely to change as much.

Not that long ago the 5D2 was 'it and a bit' and there have been millions if not billions of amazing photographs taken with it. If you really wanted a new camera body Id snap one up now that the prices are extremely good (as ive just done myself) but until you feel like you have all of the lenses you want i wouldnt be splashing out on the very latest camera body only to have it become outdated and selling for less then 50% the original RRP when the next version or new model comes along.

Travis.

70-200mm gets my vote. I wasn't very impressed with the 24-105L, it didn't live up to the hype for me. A 6D with a 24-70L mk1 would be a good choice too.

Okay thanks for the input. I think I will just go ahead and stick with the 70-200 2.8. Even on a crop body, from what I have seen, it appears to be a VERY capable portrait lens. ALMOST went with 85L but decided I would do the zoom first :D.

Eventually I will get my hands on a full frame. Thanks a bunch for the help.

I would go with 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II. I think its the best portrait lens out there. Get a FF later if your are still unhappy with the crop. The mark II is my main lens and it has worked great. The best lens in my bag. That includes the 85L.

70-200 f/4 Plus FF :D

I like this idea. I would buy the 6d kit and sell the 24-105 on craigslist for $900 and buy a 70-200 f4 IS.

I don't know how the DOF compares on a crop @ f2.8 vs FF @ f4 but I'm sure someone can chime in.

Plus, you get 2-3 stops better performance with the 6d which outweighs the 1 stop advantage of the 2.8 lens if you're in lower light.

Just something to think about.

The logical part of me says go with the glass. You don't have any of high end glass and you'll see a lot of benefit from getting a few high end lenses. But I still shoot with a 50D and totally get the lusting after full frame. I'm faced with the same dilemma and I'm going with a 5D3 myself later this year. But I also have a lot more glass than you do.

Go with the 6d/24-10 kit. It's a great price right now and you'll be stepping up both your body and lens. F/4 on FF is equiv. to 2.8 on crop from a DOF perspective and the low light capabilities of the 6d blow the 60d out of the water. If it were me, I'd get the kit and add a 70-200 f4 non-is to the mix for a stellar upgrade from what you have. You didn't mention why you needed IS, but you could always upgrade your lenses to the IS versions later. Let's be honest, don't we all want to end up with both the 70-200 2.8 is ii and a 24-70 2.8 ii anyway?

OP You have one of the two lenses. Can you tell which photo without looking at the Exif? Keep in mind that they are shot at fairly high ISOs, so they are a bit soft...

FF will have a shallower DOF than Crop-Sensor. So I dont know if there would be much difference between the f/4 on a FF and the f/2.8 on a Crop
