Had to replace a hard drive due to failure in a laptop and found out that the two disks I got with a 5Dii I bought used do not have the DPP and EOS utility software on them. Going to the Canon site doesn't help as all I can download is the updater software which will not work unless you have the original DVD or software downloaded. I am at a loss as to what to do. If someone knows where to get a good copy I can install then update I would appreciate it. If someone has an extra DVD I'd be more than happy to pay for shipping and a little extra for your time.

Thanks.

Thanks. I also found a site that showed how to edit the registry key in order to get the software to see an old installation. Was very easy and everything loaded right up.

It'd be great if you share the reg hack technique you found.
---------------

Found it myself.

To install DPP without Canon CD (or without older DPP version already installed) just create a new key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software. Name it Canon. Then create another new key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Canon. Name it DPP.

For 32-bit (x86) OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canon\DPP
For 64-bit (x64) OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Canon\DPP

The downloaded DPP software update will run without a problem.

To mod, if this trick isn't allowed, please let me know or edit my post.

Yes, that is it. Also, if you search for canon software without CD or similar, you can find what all the registry keys should be named so that you can install DPP, photostich, the EOS utility, etc..

One site that lists the keys is this one. http://www.mydigitallife.info …e-eos-utility-without-cd/ (external link) it odesn't quite tell you hot to get to the registry key the way I did or the way shown in the post above, but once you start creating the new folders, you just name them appropriately and everything installs and works perfect.
