I'd be curious to know why this older version is better than a new version of PSE? Please share!

TBH the last time I tried was a couple years ago so I don't know if they've fixed it in subsequent releases, but here you go:
- very sluggish, compared to PS. Don't know why. My computer is not the fastest but it shouldnt've lagged like that. The CS2 which I did have back then was flying, the PSE (may have been v9 or 10) was lagging rather badly.
- no actions. I think someone mention they support using pre-canned PS actions now, but I don't think you can create them. This is a very useful tool that I used a lot. I did many repetitive things and actions helped very much. Pity Gimp doesn't support it either.
- don't think the layers / masks worked - this is another feature I use all the time and I recall there was some problem with it. Again, they may have fixed it. Don't know.
Anyway, I recall when I lost my copy of PS (it belonged to a friend who got out of photography for a couple of years & loaned me his disks and license but then he got back into it) I evaluated Corel's PSP vs PSE and I just remember PSE as being laggy and in some ways incomplete. Photoshop was the fastest / smoothest regardless of the amount of editing, PSP was fast as long as there wasn't too much going on, PSE lagged like a dog. They may have fixed this in 11.
ADDED: Well, just for the ****s and giggles, I installed a trial of PSE 11.
+ They added proper layer masks.
+ It works with latest Canon CR2s
+ It seems to have many added brushes
- It still lags on my dual core 2.7 GHz 4 GB Ram computer.
- Unless I misunderstand the way contest aware fill is supposed to work, it has problems with people's hair on PSE (the select background / foreground dialog). Basically, it looks like a glorified magic wand - I may be mistaken as I didn't spend enough time with it.
- It seems to still miss the ability to record Actions.
I think for $99 total cost, LR4 + free CS2 is - for me - better than PSE 11. Will keep playing with it, though.
