HS Girls LAX

Haven't really shot much sport over the winter months (although frankly, its still freakin winter here in NE Ohio, jerk groundhg!) Anyway, we had a pretty nice day for our first match yesterday (mid 30's and sun) and despite the relatively harsh overhead light, it was nice to shoot outside and have it not be ridiculously cold.

This was also the first time I shot sports with a somewhat recently acquired 70-200 II. All of these have the 1.4 II Canon TC attached and were shot handheld and wide open. I did the dot tune MA adjustments prior to the game on the combo and would love some feedback on if it looks like I got it right since I didn't feel overly confident about it. The other thing I'd love some feedback on is the processing since these were done on a new monitor that I have not edited on so far and it seems to produce more contrast than I am used to or like.

Okay, enough words, here are some pics...all with 1D MkIII and 70-200II w 1.4x. Settings intact in exif but basically 1/2000s, 400ISO, f/4.

LOL! Saw the first image and thought, boy it must be cold there with the girls wearing long johns and gloves. When I saw they were your shots, I realized, 'oh this is OHIO!!!'

Poor girls. Nice shots anyway. Liked the one with the girl scooping up the ball. Good timing there.

How can you shoot outdoors when it's THIS cold?!!!

Thanks guys, yeah Dave, it is cold but at some point, that big bright thing came out and I was like, "WHAT?" hibernation must be over!!!

Ted, I couldn't agree more. Love some of the LAX stuff you've posted and use it as a guide. I need to get more familiar with the game, I think that will help a ton. I tend to position myself at the corners and maybe 25 yds up the line or at midfield although I prefer the ends.
