Canon is having a 30% off on refurbished lenses...
I really did not need it but for $111 I could not resist!! can't wait until it arrives to test!

Its so small that I figure it will always stay in the front pocket of my camera bag in case I need something faster then my typical 15-85 walkaround lens.

I have a Sigma 30 which I love, but its bigger and heavier.
I also have the Canon 50f1.8 which I really don't like and will likely sell.

Anyone have the Sigma 30 AND the 40 pancake? do you use both?

When the day comes you have a full frame body, you will like the pancake even more-it is an ideal normal lens on a FF body (close to the 43 mm diagonal of format "normal" lens) I love on on FF and crop, but especially love it on FF body.

Great choice there. I picked mine up brand new and paid $160+taxes. Best IQ of all of my lenses I own. I've compared it against friends of mine that own L glass and it's just as sharp as any of the IS 2.8L stuff out there. Not to mention it's a great lens to just leave welded to your camera and change as needed for each scenario, that's what I do it stays glued to my XTi and I only swap lenses if it can't do what I need it to say I need the reach of a zoom or the very shallow DOF of my 50mm 1.8 for example.

The camera is just a tool - it is not responsible for the picture.

For that price, it's like stealing.

I've been forcing my index finger to not click the buy button....

It's going to be awhile before I own a full frame, but I know I like the 40mm POV (I have a Panny 20mm f/1.7 pancake on my Olympus EPM-1). Just not sure how useful 64mm will be to me right now, since I was not a huge fan of the 50mm on a crop (LOVE my Sigma 30mm, though!)

I'm tempted to get one for my 1D IR camera. I don't suppose anyone's tried it with an IR filter to see if it has hotspot issues?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I use mine a lot with my 1DsII. It makes the whole package thin enough to put in a small flat camera bag for a P&S type camera that is easy to carry and 40mm is versatile enough on FF that it makes a decent walk-about setup.

Totally agree.. I love my Sigma but I really don't like my 50f1/8 (loud focus, bad bokeh, difficult focal length)

I figure the 40 is an improvement on all 3 areas! Plus the size is so convenient.

I really need to stop reading this forum. That price was too good to resist, so I ordered one.

I think I'll sell my 50mm f/1.4, which I am hanging onto as a lightweight walk around lens. This lens is no bigger than a 1.4X TC, so it should easily fit in any bag I have. I still have the 50L for times I need something really fast.

I'm in the exact same boat, and this one has really been tempting me lately!

I love my Sigma 30mm and its my most used lens, but the tiny size of the 40mm pancake has really intrigued me! I do a lot of traveling and would love the compactness of the lens, as it seems to get great reviews.

I keep getting closer to clicking the buy button as well whenever Canon sends out the 30% refurb sales. Hope you enjoy it!

Add a little reverse lens adapter and you can turn the 40 into a macro lens.
