Gatornationals Drag Racing

I'm not a drag racing photographer, and this is only my second time shooting drags. These cars are certainly impressive in the horsepower, noise, and good times for the fans that they produce. In fact, NHRA seems to have the best fan access and might be the most fan friendly of any motorsport or possibly any professional sport that I have photographed.

Nice series. How did you get the close up of Antron?

Thanks. The drivers and crews are extremely fan and media friendly. Antron was about 3rd in line to move out onto the track, so I asked him for a photo. I just stuck the camera into the cockpit above the steering wheel. I probably fired off 5 or 6 one handed shots to make sure I got one. This area is for crew and media only, but he regularly walks around outside his pit signing autographs. I saw kids coming out of the pit area with autographed engine and body parts and one was even rolling an autographed tire that someone had given him.
