I've promissed my sister some photos of her dog for some time - for some reason I suggested we get together this past weekend (in 6"-8" of snow).

The dog (actually a ****) is some sort of Border Collie I think, although has the name "Blue" in the full description (that I can't recall).

It really was fun shooting in the snow, although all the images I took were under exposed (I did manage to pull them back with DPP though). A full set of water proofs got me lying on the ground to get a better angle (IMHO).

I really need to hone my PP skills though as I'm sure there is a little more contrast and sharpness to be had out of them.

These are amazing shots. I'm assuming the eyes are two-toned or is that from flash? They almost look fake. I just love them all!

Thank you.

No flash, the eyes are real - really wierd; she appears to be looking to one side at first glance.

Your captures do a wonderful job of illustrating the intensity that BCs are often known for Lawrence, and those eyes don't hurt at all either! WOW!!
Love the playful, clownish expression in the 1st capture and your perspective in the last. Excellent job! I would certainly thing that your sis is happy.

Thank you also.

I took a few prints round to my sister this evening after work (a couple of A3's, an A4 and a handfull of 6x4's) - she was bowled over with them; that made me realise that perhaps I am better at this than I thought I was (I am my own worst critic :().

I still don't know the proper name of this sub breed of Border Collie, although my sister pointed out that the black claw seen in the second image above is the only one as all the others are white !!! EDIT - I just googled and think this colouring is known as Blue Merle.

Anyway, a few more (as I've not exceeded my 8):

I'll have to put it down to "beginners luck".

More on the eyes... I've been googling again and come accross this: http://www.gis.net …yes/BC_ColorEyeColor.html (external link) - appears that this particular eye colouration may possibly have been due to an infection in the womb.

I've never been a dog owner (only pets I managed to keep were tropical fish) but having spent time with Sky, I really have become quite smitten.

It's common for blue/red merles to have two toned eyes. You'll see alot of australian shepherds and catahoulas with the same kind of eyes.

Great pictures. Love her. I'm debating on getting another border collie (would be a blue merle this time) or a doberman.
