Need help with post processing this photo

Hello All! I have just received my new 20D yesterday and fired off a few shots in auto mode. This picture turned out to be too orange and was wondering how you would adjust this and how I could prevent this in the future using in camera adjustment before shooting.

The orange color is usually from tungsten lights and is corrected with the right white balance setting. But if you had the camera in full auto mode, it should have done an auto white balance which should be close to correct, not like this is. Are you sure you weren't using a different semi-auto mode like Shutter or Apeture Priority (Tv or Av)?

Read your manual to learn how to set white balance or turn auto white balance on.

And by the way, you're not supposed to post images that are wider then 800 pixels.

One of the main ways to correct this in the future is to shoot in RAW mode because it is pretty easy to correct it in post processing.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will check the manual. The walls are orange and I have 5 x 100w energy saving light in the background when I shot this. Don't know if that mattered...Thanks

I don't know what program you use for your post processing but here is a quick fix I did in CS2.

I applied the #82 filter with density of 50%
+8 contrast
a little USM

I am not very proficient with PhotoShop but I still enjoy working with it.

Altered it a little bit, perhaps could do with the color balance altering a bit more, but I like it as it is. Matter of personal taste.

Thank you. I use PS to edit my photos. This looks good.

I use Photoshop CS2.

All I did was set the black and white levels from within the curves dialogue.
Desaturated slightly.
Then framed it with my script (in signature).
I set USM within my script to 200/0.3/0 which brought out the detail in the face.

Where can I set black and white levels and how can I set them within the curves and dialogue? I use PS not CS2. Can I do that in PS?

Also will your script work with PS?
