Will using the Back Button to focus trigger IS on the lens? Thanks

So if I use Back Button Focusing I wont get IS like when I focus with the half press on the shutter button?

correct. You will trigger IS if you half-press the shutter only when IS is enabled on that lens.

I can confirm, when I press the * key for back button focusing, IS is also turned on.

Another yes. BBF will activate IS (provided the switch on the lens is on).

Turns on with back and shutter buttons but there is no point in pressing the shutter button before focusing.

Back button AF activates IS. You should hear the motor running as soon as you press the back button. Nuance to your question, however, is whether you assign AF-ON to the shutter and AF-Lock to the back button. If AF-ON is assigned to the shutter, then the shutter turns on IS. If no AF function is assigned to the shutter but is assigned to the back button, then only back button will activate IS.

Both * and [AF ON] on newer bodies, do activate IS.
