In seeing the listed price for a new Canon 600 EX-RT Speedlight at Amazon today, several question came to mind.

1. Is this a USA or Imported Speedlight they are selling?

2. What is the difference in a USA or Imported Product? (I have read the explanation B&H provides, but wanted other's opinions).

3. Is saving $72 per Speedlight with an Imported unit, worth any risk identified with Imports.

I ask as I am interested in buying multiple units. Thanks in advance!

I believe the one sold by Amazon is a USA version. Some imported products are supposedly not covered by the 1 year manufacturer warranty, but there have been some conflicting accounts about that.

USA version on BH is $554, and the import version is $549. I would pay the extra $5 bucks and have that extra one year warranty on it.

Plus your not paying for tax with BHphoto.

Are you saying that with the USA version there is a warranty, PLUS an additional one year warranty for $5?

NO. USA version offers one year warranty. The import version doesn't offer the one year warranty.

If you buy the import (gray) item from B&H Photo, they will provide the warranty service for one year. I'm not sure about the warranty policy of other vendors, though.

Adorama has the best deal right now. The Canon 600 EX-RT is $554 w/free shipping. And if you join Adorama's VIP program, which is free, and then buy the VIP extended warranty for $7.95, you'll get an additional 1-year warranty on ALL Adorama purchases that you make in the next year. Yes, the one-time $7.95 fee will give you a 2 years worth of warranty coverage on every new Canon item you buy and there is no limit as to how many items will be covered under that one-time $7.95 charge. It's one heck of a deal!

Bryan,

Thank you for the tip and to all you who responded. You been most helpful with my questions. Will need to check on Free Shipping to Hawaii, but that shouldn't be a deal breaker with discounts being offered currently.

Mahalo!

Geoff,

Your welcome. I'm a huge shopper for deals and I love making my photography $$$ go as far as possible, so I enjoy helping others find the best deals too.

On Adorama's website, they say free shipping to Hawaii is excluded. :( However, since you are looking at possibly buying multiple units, I would give them a call or PM Helen Oyster, who is a Adorama Customer Ambassador that frequents this forum. Perhaps they can provide you with free shipping. One warning though, Adorama is essentially closed until April 3rd due to their religious holiday schedule. But personally, unless you need the flash units right now, their prices and VIP Warranty are worth the wait.

Another note, and this may not apply...but over the last 7 months or so, anytime I purchase a higher-end item with free shipping, such as an 85L or a 24L, Adorama has shipped it (free) via UPS Ground instead of "Mail Innovations" or some other method that takes a really long time, which is often the case with free shipping. Smaller items, or orders only worth a hundred dollars or so have still been sent to me via the slow track. But higher end items have been arriving within 3 days via UPS Ground.

Hope this helps,
Bryan

Bryan,

Great advice. I will reach out to Helen and see if she can help put the deal together.

All the best,

Bryan and others who may be following this thread,

I looked a bit further into the details of the Adorama VIP Program and it may not be a fit for everyone, it won't be for me. Here's some information:

1. Although it is currently FREE to subsribe to the Adorama VIP Program, one area noted that the VIP Warranty Program would be $7.95 ANNUALLY. Not a big deal, but some may think the Warranty is a one time charge. Those interested should check this.

2. The VIP Warranty is only for non-commercial use. This doesn't work for me.

3. The VIP Warranty only applies where a valid 90 day parts and labor MANUFACTURER'S warranty is in effect. I think this implies that Grey Market purchases would not then be covered.

Food for thought!

Geoff,

Wow, thank you for pointing out this information! It's always good to read the fine print and I thank you for sharing this with us. Sounds like Amazon might be the way to go for you, especially if you want the flash units sooner then later. As long as the order is fulfilled by Amazon and not a third=party vendor, it should be the USA version.

I would rather avoid Amazon.com due to tax.
