A couple of days ago I found a pretty thorough review of some RRS products and the TFA-01 was covered.
The author put forth the the idea that a Frisbee could be used like a saucer under the TFA-01's three legs, and this would give a wider surface area for ground-based shots in soft surfaces like sand (and I'll add, snow).
This was helpful because I was looking at a $100 Naturescapes SKM-II Skimmer Ground Pod II, and improvising with a Frisbee for the very minimal times I would shoot this way, would better suit my budget.

I am not sure what the Forum's policy on posting links is so I would suggest that if you search for
"Shutter Muse Really Right Stuff Ultimate Ballhead and Gimbal Showdown"
you could see the author's views on this tripod, and his"RRS Frisbeepod" idea.

Nice review. Thanks!

I have had this item in my B&H wish list for a few months and will get one at some point.
I like the size of it, and it will fill a gap in my range of tripods.

Totally worth it. Only thing I wanna do is get a more minimal ballhead/head for it. RRS has a microball BC-18 but it has limited range of movement, which makes shooting UP from the ground probably too hard.

I bought one and added the BC-18 ball head - what a great little accessory! I got to use it a bunch out at Car Week in Monterey last week and got some great shots!
I was shooting with a Canon 1Dx and 24-70 f/2.8 lens - a very heavy combination and it was rock steady.

My one issue with this little tripod is the volume, especially at the top. The Feisol CB-30D ballhead that can be bought with the tripod has a diameter of 50mm which is only 3mm short of the Acratech full-size ballheads I use. With a tabletop tripod I would prefer a design that took up less space in the bag, like the Manfrotto or RRS type designs.
