I feel that they colors that come out of my Hero2 are so much better than what comes out of my 5D mkii. I set my 5D to be really flat color wise since that is the recommendation from nearly every corner of the internet. I am fairly new to FCPX but no amount of messing with the color can I get my 5D to look as nice as the Hero 2. Is my problem the flat picture style?

what flat picture style are you using? got any comparison shots? "Better" is relative, so it'd help if you show us what look you are trying to achieve.

The flat picture styles are there to give you more latitude in post production, just like an unprocessed RAW looks dull compared to a jpeg straight out of camera. I've got the hero 3 and and putting it in ProTune mode makes the picture look rubbish compared to normal too.
Going beyond putting on a simple S curve and playing around with settings maybe try googling for Canon EOS LUT profiles I'm pretty sure you'll get the information you are after. It's pretty interesting stuff.

If you are not into colour grading you may be better off shooting in a picture style that you like to start with?

I've just noticed there is a sticky thread at the top of this very forum with all the info about Canon colour profiles!

I find just the opposite... my Gopro looks like garbage in pretty much every aspect compared to 600D, and is hard to work with in PP.

I dont even bother using the gopro if I've got the choice.

Same here and if you have the Hero-1 its not even HD color space. Try to match up one with a newer one. Don't think the H1 is even a tru HD camera. Looks like its 960x540 mapped to have the right pixel count. Junk in my opinion. The newer ones are better but who needs a pinhole camera when you have a DLSR.

Maybe if you want to mount it to your bike helmet and go down the side of a mountain in the pissing rain bashing into overhead branches and occasionally crashing over rocks into big piles of mud?
I wouldn't fancy that with my 60d strapped to my helmet. GoPros have their uses; DSLRs have their uses, no reason why both can't live happily together in your kit!

I agree, in any sort of dubious lighting the noise level gets pretty bad on my Hero3 but in good light it can produce stunning quality video IMO.

As stated, they each have their place. I have seen both types of footage incorporated into videos that I have worked on with great success. It all comes down to the editor and the processing that is done.

GoPro has a flat picture profile setting named ProTune. It's similar to some of the flat picture profiles that are available for the Canon DSLRs. And as such can be edited into a project using both DSLRs and GoPros. Of course if you are using the DSLR as the main camera then the GoPro footage is usually used in a supporting roll and not as a main camera. Quick cuts using the GoPro are a great way to get a different angle or something that a DSLR can't get without destroying the camera.

But I highly doubt that the footage from a GoPro will stand up to that of a DSLR set to a similar shot. It still comes down to the lenses and sensors.
