I actually managed to grab 1 whole hour yesterday at sevenoaks reserve to try out the 1DX on some critters, not great light but I thought I best share the 'duck' pic that you have to take by law with new kit, well its not actually a duck but a Great Crested Grebe but its close enough, these are with the 2x TC on my 300 then really cropped in, I figured yesterday in about 5 mins that I need a 500mm f4... now I just need to go persuade the wife

Gorgeous, beautiful shots. I like them all, as it actually looks like you did get great light, but love the last one with the pair. And sorry to disappoint you, but with shots like that with your current gear, you really don't need a 500! (Just kidding - get it and be happy!) ;) Tell you what, you get your 500 mm lens, and I'll get my 1DX - - - - some day.
