Been far too busy, and took my opportunity to get out in the garden and scare some insects with a camera.

The spiders thought better, but saw what I thought was a very small wood louse, and it turned out to be a fairly large springtail.

Taken at around 4.5x

Thank you all for the kind words. It has been so long since I managed a shot I wondered if I would need to start my learning curve all over again.

Once we get some larger bugs to shoot I will send the 5D off for a sensor clean. The amount of dust drives me mad.

Either that or I get myself a new 6D...

buy a kit and clean the sensor yourself.it,s no big deal.
the 6-d is very interesting, considering the price.much cheaper than the 5d mark111.if you,re not doing birds in flight,or dont care about the 61 point af system, which is moot for us macro shooters,it seems like a winner, and lighter too.too bad it doesn,t use compact flash cards though.have to buy sd cards.

I have been though the cleaning kit Denis. On the other cameras that did a great job, but with this one I can't seem to get a clean sensor.
Just for my sanity I should get it cleaned, or maybe get the 6D and then have a spare which I could clean in my own time.

Last year I did so video work with my 7D and tried a technique called "Lens Whacking." Not for the weak of heart an deffinantly a tough one to master. But the basic idea is that the lens (usually not a EOS lens either, but sonething that doesnt actually fit a EOS body) isn't connected to the body. Thus allowing light leaks to enter the light box and sensor area. If done well the effect is far beyond what what any post processing can do for a simular effect. The down side to this really cool technique is that the sensor is basically exposed to the elements.

I got some interesting effects last spring when I was trying to shoot a spring based video and I wanted a cool effect while following some bees while they were busy gathering pollen from my cherry tree. I was happy with the effect for my first time effort, but not only did the bees gather pollen, but I got some on my sensor. And it proved very hard to clean off. I finally did get the sensor clean, but it took a while to do and a whole box of those wipes. So maybe I'll not do that again while the pollen is so high in spring. Like I said, I eventually got the sensor clean, but it took a while. In some of my shots it is fairly obvious. The problem with video is that its a lot harder to fix a few spots on your sensor as opposed to a still image. Especially at 60fps.

Here was the video that I did and where I got the pollen on the sensor.
