Hi,

Is there a place where I can check the serial number of a Canon 400/2.8L IS lens I may buy. It is a very good price, therefore I'd like to check the serial somewhere(if possible)

You should check the date code the one with "U".
But why is that you need the S #? Do you think it is a hot item?

Well, I just think that the serial might help me confirm that he really has the lens. He has sent me some pictures of the lens, but it is quite a lot of money, so I just want to be sure :)

Do you know if Canon will inform me if a serial number has been registered, and who has, so I can confirm the owner?

I doubt anyone would give out private info... I'd be upset if Canon gave you my info if you asked them to...

If you have a CPS account then you could try adding it to your equipment list. If it's already registered it will tell you and if the serial number is invalid it'll tell you that too....I guess that the CPS connected to a production database.

I contacted CPS USA about the serial, and they answered that they have checked the serial I gave them, and it has not been registered. Also, they say, that they can check the serial number if it's registered of a member or if it has been sent to service.
