Let's see. No refurb, no sales, no nothing for Zeiss 50mm f/1.4.

Never any coupons for Amazon. Amazon also has no mrrebates cash-back. I do have Amazon's own cashback on their credit card.

Adorama works with mrrebates but it's only 1%.

B&H nothing that I am aware of.

Any other ideas?
Yours spoiled Canon refurb user.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

Hehe! It's unfortunate that Zeiss never has these programs. They make you bend over for them. ;) If you want new, you have to pay the price. The only way to save is to buy used and just be aware of barrel condition and that the glass is scratch free.

Haha. As if the used prices were anywhere close to attractive :)

If they at least had silver lenses with Canon mount then I'd happily dump moment on them. But nooooo...

Sounds like you can't afford it, to be quite honest.

In photography, it's expensive to get the gear. Like many companies, Zeiss is not willing to offer sales of their equipment because they know it's some of the best and worth the money. If you can't afford new, get a used lens. End of story.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Wanting a good deal has nothing to do with what you can afford. Paying more than u need to is just plain stupid whether you are poor or a millionaire.

Well it's one thing to jump on a sale because it's available. It's another to try to get discounts where there aren't any, then basically complain about the lack thereof. OP clearly needs to pay the going rate for new because Zeiss doesn't do sales, but OP doesn't want to because he seems to feel entitled to a cheaper price...or something.

OP says he wants to pay less than what sellers can offer the item for new. OP can "want" to pay less all he wants, but if no one is willing to sell the item to him at that price, he will not get one. As I said before, if OP is unwilling or unable to pay the going price for a new item, second-hand might be the way to go.

not necessarily. many pay more than they "need to" as it saves time, and by extension, money.

I can assure you that most millionaires are rich because they get the best price they can and don't pay more than necessary for things. At least in the business world.

OP says he wants to pay less than what sellers can offer the item for new.[...]

The situation is simple: MAP (minimum advertised price) is what disables competition in this space. It should be illegal but either way I don't have to play their game. I'm a very easy customer and don't do anything wacky to the seller after purchasing (unless outright defective), so the sellers should be allowed to compete for my business.

I'm not sure whether the situation is better or worse with Canon's own lenses who first force retailers into a MAP scheme and then undermine it themselves with their so-called refurbs. At least I can get what I want from them.

Whether I can or cannot afford a Zeiss is a tricky matter. The reason why I can afford new gear has a lot to do with me keeping my gear money more or less constant with a very controlled infusion of fresh money. It really matters whether you keep your buying closer to the used prices or simply wave the credit card and pay asking price without blinking.

Anyway, thanks for the killfile suggestions. *plonk*

I think Lensrentals sells them used periodically. They also sell them new.

I think no discounts is part of the luxury marketing plan.

Used prices for ZE lenses can be found for very reasonable prices. 30% off list is not unusual and sometimes real good deals can be had off eBay where there's no reserve. That's much better than you can usually do for Canon lenses (used) and when Canon has a good sale, the new and used prices come close to matching each other. Also, many Zeiss owners are anal about care. So go used to save some $$$

(FYI, the 50/1.4 is one of the least respected lenses in their lineup. I have the ZE50MP/2.0 and love it)

Shame on anyone looking for bargains!

Personally, I just don't see any correlation between frugality and net worth.
