A shot from the local Botanical Garden this afternoon. This was actually inside the facility and was set up as a holiday display.

I almost bought the 1.2 version of this lens this week. I then looked back through my 1.8 shots in lightroom and realised I dont actually need it as this version produces great images. Sure it would be nice to have but I cant justify the price difference to myself

He he! I was quietly watching you from the sidelines! ;-)a I feel very similar. I was going to be quite envious if you pulled the trigger! I would love the 1.2 and there is no question that it's in another league. But WOW, it has a hefty price tag! I'm pretty thrifty and live below my means. Thus, I'll likely never own one

I was very close and if it wasn't for the mould issue you might have seen in another thread I would have made the purchase. I also got outbid on ebay in the last 5 seconds on another. I then re-thought about it and couldn't justify £160 vs £1000-£1275 (I only paid £160 for my latest copy of the 1.8). In the end I re-purchased the TS-E 24 which I regretted selling earlier in the year.

I'm like yourself, I have a certain amount of money invested in my photography hobby and have made the decision not to add to that amount. I sold my Sony setup over Christmas which allowed me to purchase the 40 pancake, the tilt shift lens and a new ballhead with the money. My 2015 resolution/challenge to myself is to not buy or sell another lens this year. Hopefully I can do it :-)

Good luck with that!! ;) I said the same thing after buying the 35ART, "That's it! No more gear!" That was a month ago, now I find myself looking at the 5D3 and coming up with stupid reasons to justify needing it.

Anyways, the 85 1.8 is a sweet lens, and as long as the AF on my copy still works, I won't be replacing it.

My name is Jeff, not actually Jose Canseco.

My wife says buying and selling camera gear (at a loss normally!) is a bigger hobby than photography for me

But if you are somewhat smart about it this loss is usually much less than a rental fee! This is one way I have almost justified the 85 1.2 in the past. If I could pick up a nice deal on the used market, use it for a year or so, then sell for not much less than I paid, I would considerer that a wash! Here in the US $1450 or so isn't unheard of. Both Shane and Adam let their's go for around that price. I just chickened out at the last second! ;-)a

I'd like to get my hands on one for a try but don't know anyone that has one and grudge paying rental fees. The good thing about canon lenses is that they hold their value well like you say. Fuji on the other hand

I just picked up this lens on 12/23 and have posted some of my early favorites below. All shots are post processed to taste in LR4.

Here are some shots wide open or near it:

No 1 Portrait, since I don't like posting family pictures on the internet here's a photo of my cat wide open.
