Another fly, can't find ID this for this :( Maybe the colour is all wrong in these two shots and that could be why?

Good captures.
Last shot is a black biting fly - Simuliidae.
Think the first fly is a muscid - Phaonia sp.

Thanks Brian, can you or anyone else recommend a good book for UK insects, flies and spiders?
I would like to learn more about the new world that I'm now discovering :)

How about common house fly?
I would be using a Swatter before bothering much about ID but you did fairly well on all.

Unless you want a very expensive specialist book, it's hard to get a guide on flies- there are just too many of them and many are very similar- requiring dissection to ID them.
If I'm that interested I use the web site Diptera.info (you need to join). The Wild about Britain site is also not bad for all insects but you have to upload pics to their site rather than just link them.

For a general book on bugs.
Insects of Britain and Western Europe by Michael Chinery PUb A&C black
or
Insects of the New forest by Paul Brock pub Oisces
Are both good
