If a Business FB page then only tag the people in the image. If family and ou want to share with your family, why not tag them. If its just guests etc..no

Here's my rule: when it comes to children, the parents make the rules. I ask nicely to use images of their children. They say no? No problem. Image are never shared without explicit permission.

Pretend they're your kids. Then it sound reasonable.

Personally I would tag the parents in the post, not the photo. Then they get a notification that you tagged them in a post and if they want to (depending on the settings of the page as well) they can tag themselves in the photo. That prevents them being tagged in loads of photos which aren't of them ;)

I just did a birthday party for a family members 3 year old daughter. They said they have no problem with me using the pictures on my Facebook page and/or website. My question is in regards to tagging the pictures on facebook.

In the pictures that strictly have the 3 year old girl, would it be wrong and/or rude to tag people who were there at the party? These people are on my personal page friends list, however they are more of an Acquaintance since they are friends of family.

So, should I tag them to get some more exposure with their friends? Should I ask first? Should I just skip tagging them?

Any input on this is appreciated. I really don't want to upset anyone with this whole tagging thing.

It depends on the people. I personally would not like being tagged in random pictures from the event I was in. Other people will not mind, as their profiles already consists of shared pics of cats and smart quotes.

Well, I generalize now heavily, but - if there's at least one person, who might not like it, you should not tag. Simple.

I agree with those that say that if you do any tagging, stick with just the parents. For myself, I have tagging on an "as approved" basis. Meaning that if someone tags me, I have to approve it before it shows.

Don't tag them unless you know them well!

I agree with this.

Side note: I am also one that gets annoyed when I am tagged in a photo that does not include me.

I have a specific statement in my "terms and conditions" about social media that is signed by the parents before a shoot, and we discuss facebook right then and there, including tagging. If it is agreed upon, then I'll tag the parents of the child only. I'll also share sneek peeks on their pages.

My problem is I can't seem to figure out how to tag them FROM my businesss page. If I do a sneak peek, it's usually 3-4 pictures in their own album, or (if it is a small shoot) I'll just add one or two photos to an existing album. Still, when I try to tag them FROM the album, the names that appear are always unrecognizable- nobody in my friends list at all- of even those you hae "liked" my business page! Argh. Very frustrating- I have to go to my personal page - click in my "about" section on my business, effectively - like someone else coming to my business page, and then share the album to my personal timeline - THEN tag. Jeez- it's confusing writing it - I must be missng something!!!

Does tagging still work with Facebook wanting me to front $10 to spread the post? I thought it lost a lot of appeal with those with lots of likes. Posts are no longer going quite as viral as they used to. I still find it awkward to tag from my business page. I first need to add as friend from personal profile, get accepted, then go over to my business page and tag.

Wish I knew how you did that. Even my current friends from my personal profile don't appear when I try to tag from my business page. Argh.

I often wonder at the effectiveness of FB for photographers, although the current trend and at least the partial consensus is that it is great- I've been "in business" now for about a year, and really I have not booked one session with a complete stranger enumerating soley from social media. I know it's aslow process, tagging or not, but still...I have started promoting posts, and its beginning to get expensive! Need more engaging content, I suppose.

As far as tagging- logically, I would assume that if I promoted a post- what I see is it popping up in the newsfeed about once to twice a day, instead of getting buried right away. I understand it is supposed to be appearing on the friends of your friends feeds as well, but I don't know how you would confirm that- except perhaps- by tagging. If I tag a person- it will show up in their friends feed, thereby spreading it again. Thats logic, I guess- and I'm not sure FB is exactly logical... : )

I don't ever tag photos and I set my FB so I have to approve any tag of me - which I never allow.

I'd think the families and friends would crosspost and forward images anyway, I don't really see much of a benefit in tagging. But I also don't use FB for business, it's real friends only, not even family (so I don't have to censor myself ;-)a

In the security/privacy settings. I have mine set that way. It was especially important when I was looking to change careers about a year ago.
