I rarely use DPP these days as Lightroom suits my workflow, but yesterday I needed DPP and discovered that I am unable to select multiple individual image files in the main window other than all of them. CTRL-Click doesn't work and neither does SHIFT-Click. Regardless of how I click I only get a single image selected. I can select all images at once using the button or CTRL-A but nothing will let me select a few individual files.

I've even uninstalled and reinstalled, and just now installed the latest version which came out a day or two ago. All the same - no multiple selection allowed. Other software (Lightroom, Windows Explorer) allows multiple file selections just as one would expect, as does Zoombrowser. DPP flat refuses to allow the same. I have searched and found no other complaints of this nature, save an old one in which the user did not know about CTRL and SHIFT clicking. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Which version is that? I thought the latest version came out in 2012.

I was running Release 3.12.52 until this morning. Now I have 3.13.0.1. Neither one of them is allowing multiple file selections.

Cmd+click works fine on OSX. I'd suppose Ctrl+Click should work on PC…

What happens if you select all, then ctrl+click a thumbnail?

I'm running Win 8 Pro x64, fully up to date and protected by Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro.

If I press CTRL-A to select all files and then CTRL-click an individual file that one file becomes the only selected file instead of becoming deselected. It's like DPP is totally ignoring the CTRL and SHIFT modifiers. Every other application accepts them perfectly.

Mind you, another problem that appeared yesterday as well - When clicking CTRL-I to toggle the info panel on and off I kept getting task switched to my Chrome browser. The same was true even when I pressed the Info button in the toolbar. Clearly there is something very screwy with DPP that is not affecting any other application.

Anyway, my need for DPP was only to show the active AF point. I'm now using Zoombrowser instead, so while there is no crisis it is of concern that something is skewiff. I was just hoping someone else might have seen this and have some ideas.

Thanks for the link to the updated version of DPP, which is working fine. Sorry, I am unable to offer advice on your problem.

Grasping at straws: maybe your keyboard is broken? Try the Ctrl key on the other side?

CTRL and SHIFT are working in all other apps and allow me to make multiple selections within them. It is only DPP that is playing up. As well as uninstalling/reinstalling/upgrading DPP I have also rebooted a couple of times. Nothing so far has cured the problem.

Evidence of the SHIFT key working is contained within this post, but I cannot SHIFT-Click a range of photos in DPP either.

Anyway, thanks for the ideas. I'm still stumped. :(

Sounds like a "DPP on Win 8" bug.

Perhaps, but surely I am not the first to run into it if so, yet Googling is coming up with nothing. I'm sure this is irrelevant, but the machine I'm using is well specified - Dell Precision M6700 with i7-3720QM, K3000M, 16GB, IPS RGB display, 256GB SSD + 750GB HDD.

As per the screen print in post #3 the version of DPP I now have installed is listed for Windows 8 x64, so I'd be surprised if it was a bug. It's not like CTRL-click or SHIFT-click are new developments in the Windows world.

Oh well, it's very much non urgent, but if anyone has any more ideas I'd be grateful. Thanks.

I'm curious... instead of left mouse click, use right mouse click. Try this (in DPP):
Right click the first photo
hold SHIFT and right click the last photo

Does it work?

That's worth trying, but just now I've been giving the machine a spring clean in the vain hope that I have installed something that is screwing things up so I don't have DPP or any Canon apps installed right now. Thanks for the suggestion though. If/when I reinstall DPP I'll try to remember to post back on any progress.

This (external link) post claims right clicking works. That's bizarre but if it works, why not.

I'll try it myself when I have a chance (I don't have Win8 at this time).
