Hello : ) Few weeks ago I bought my first Canon L lens. I didn't watch it carefully, I've just took it to journey ;)

When I came back, I started to clean it : ) Suddenly I noticed that when you look from top to front of this lens and touch glass, it moves a little, about 1 millimeter : ) In addition when I "shake" lens I feel that something is shaking a little inside (like 1 milimeter free space between lens and its cover).

I don't know if it is normal, so I would be grateful If you look at your lens and let me know :) Maybe I'm just " supersensitive" :D

The lens moves a bit when focusing within the lens barrel. Try spinning the focus ring, not zoom ring, and see if that is the movement you are talking about. That is normal.

Not sure on the noise though!

Mine has that "little give" on the plastic framing the lens. It didn't give as much as yours, but I also didn't press real hard. I couldn't tell if pushing on one side caused the other to raise. I didn't think I should keep pushing to try and verify. If your lens is working fine, put a top quality filter on. Then you will not be able to press on that area an have it bother you. Plus you need to add the filter if you want to complete the weather sealing of the lens.

When you tilt it back and forth there is a slight movement or rattle in mine too, I assume it is the motor. Mine works (and has worked) so I'm not going to worry about it. I'm also not going to keep tilting it just to hear the noise.

I think you are searching for things that are not there. If the lens is working without issue, don't worry about those things and enjoy your lens.

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

Mine also does that, and all of my L lenses make a little bit of noise when I shake them which just from the clearances of the moving parts.
