I've seen some great shots. :)

I'm more interested in how the lens performs compared to V1. From what I've read so far, the lens is much improved over the first version. (great shots in this thread as well)

Thanks for the info.
Hatch

A lot of the responses seem to be from people that did not OWN both, so not answering your original post! :)

I have owned both and can say hands down no comparison, MKII is by far sharper all around, as for speed and focus, I dont find it a whole PILE different, but definitely more precise!

You certainly wouldn't be disappointed with the "upgrade" for sure!

Thank you very much for the information. The price has come down so... I think it's time to buy.

Appreciate the info.

I compare it to the 17-40 F4 L and 16-35 F4 L. I have had both, and just like when I upgraded you will find yourself noticing lots of small improvements when editing pics with the newer version. As others have said, it truely may be one of Cannons finest lenses......

Two of us have responded to the original post and we have BOTH owned the mk1 so that seems like a strange statement....

Group hug.. group hug. :)

I appreciate all the comments. Still weighing my options and considering the purchase of the 70-200II.

I'm also trying to decide on location lighting... so .. this may dictate how much I spend and if I can swing the 70-200II purchase. I've really enjoyed the images posted in this thread and from what I've read and seen in videos... the new II is a nice upgrade compared to V1.

Thanks again,.

If you are studio only, the F4 IS is just as sharp/good.

Mainly location work is the intended use. :) But I've heard good things about the F/4

RENT one for a couple of days.
I bet a fiver you go out and buy your own copy in the same week you return the rental.

That's what I did....until the 100-400 MKii came out.......

Cheers.

I just wanted to say thank you to all those who voiced their thoughts/opinions about this lens. I made the purchase a few minutes ago.

On a side note... I went through http://www.greentoe.com (external link) (strange name lol ) and haggled the price down to $1759 for a new lens that is from a US authorized dealer. That includes shipping and tax. I must say... pretty cool service!

So... now I just have to wait until the lens arrives and I'll start posting some shots.

Thanks again all for the help.

Wow, well I feel stupid. I paid $1650 used! (although it has 8 months left on the warranty)

I will definitely keep that service in mind the next time I need to make a purchase.

Thanks... It should be fun to shoot. I haven't shot a zoom lens in about 6 years lol...
