I am having the same issue. I love my F4, but this lens is just better in every way I have tried it so far. I fear if I sell my F4 I will regret it.

I kept it. I take it when weight is important like on a hike but yeah, I reach for the F2.8 if I have a choice.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Now I have a dilemma my other half wants me to get rid the f4 but I am stalling until she forget about it lol.

Wow, on the second shot you were at 1/25th of a second and it still looks very sharp. That IS is working like a champ on a shot like this. I have not really had to use the IS yet since I was at high shutter speed while testing in bright sunlight at F/2.8

Yup and that was handheld. I have not use my old 1DMK2 for over a year and I thought I would try this lens with it. I was happy with the result.

Unless you hike or in some situation where weight is a critical parameter, I would consider selling it. Give it 6 months and if you find yourself reaching for the 2.8 every time (I almost guarantee you will), you know it's time to sell.

Thanks. I think I am going to end up selling it, I don't see it like it will be with me or in my bag every time I go out for birds. The 70-200mm f2.8 will be use mostly in an event.

I am thinking the same thing Scrum. I love my F4 because it has been rated second best of the 70-200's, but the 2.8 Mk 2 is the one ahead of it. Between the faster aperture and the IS, it seems sad to not share the F4 that someone can at least use it.
I am not overly concerned about weight, my daily carry pack includes my Gripped 6D, Gripped 7D2, the Mk 2 (now), 85 1.8, 24-70 2.8. Sigma 30 1.4 and my YN 565 flash and a strap. I think before I added the Mk 2, the pack weighed close to 25 pounds. So I carry a lot of weight on a regular basis, for the extra couple of pounds of the Mk 2 vs the F4 is not that big of a deal.

Not at the requisite F/2.8 but I wanted more of the face in focus.

In that case, sell, sell, sell! The F4 is an incredible lens, but I can guarantee that other than weight, there are no situations where it will outshine the F2.8.

This lens sure beats that F4 in everything except the price and weight, and i have it i never used F4 but i don't need/have to, this lens sure will live for long long time as did mk1 before.
