I use a Transcend 3.0. Seems to work fine.

^^^

I love mine. The read speed is really fast with mine. files from my 5D2 are transfer in less than a second each, it seems.

I used the reader twice this weekend to move a few hundred photos. Using my USB 3.0 connection and this reader and using Windows 8, it was showing a transfer speed of 110 megs a second. This is with a Transcent 400x CF card. (From Amazon for something like $30)

I'm not sure if having a faster hard drive would make the speed any different, but my HDD is a standard 2tb seagate Sata 3, 7200rpm. Would like to see if it would be any different using a WD black drive or a SSD drive.

<edited to change my quoted CF card speed from 600x to 400x>

That hasn't been updated in a couple years now, since be got a new
job, and hasn't been maintaining the site. It's a good starting point,
but technology has been marching forward over the last couple years.

I have the lexar, mine and those belonging to two friends have all started playing up about 6 months in, either taking ages to show up the card or disconnecting and reconnecting randomly. Feel guilty as I recommended it to them. Tis fast though..

I have a Kingston one (red letters on top while it is transferring). It seems quick to me, but I haven't done any testing on it.

Its a whole lot quicker than my older card reader which I thought was usb2, but it may only be usb1.1.

Oh sorry! I hadn't noticed :(

I saw a link to it on another forum and assumed that it was up to date.

Seems like the Lexar has some fans in here, I was just about to pull the trigger on whatever I found to test on Amazon. Thankfully I found this thread so I'm going to order the Lexar instead. I've used their cards before back when I first really started to 'get into' shooting seriously, so I'm a fan of them. I've had no problems with the last card I bought from them years ago (2005-6 I think lol?), so the reviews here really helped. :D

I drove all around store to store this past week trying to find a local store with a usb3 card reader. Not a single place had one, and the places that carried readers at all (what? cameras, no readers???) had hot garbage for readers. I can't take the usb2 speed anymore with the file sizes of more modern cameras lol. That was just fine back when my main camera was a Nikon D1h hahahaha. (still utterly love that camera though)

Just wanted to say a HUGE thanks for all who recommended the Lexar Pro 3.0 card reader!!! I received it this morning, and did some testing. I used it versus my old USB 2.0 reader, plugged into the same port, using the same files. Both transferring to a Samsung 128Gb SSD drive. Used my Galaxy S2 stopwatch function...

USB 2.0 - 10 File Transfer (155mb) = 136 seconds
USB 3.0 - 90 File Transfer (1.37gb) = 39 seconds

Holy crap that's an almost stomach turning difference!!! I at first tried to go with testing all the files on the card, but it was going to be over 19 minutes with the 2.0 reader. Then I decided to try just 10 files...but that was barely over 4 seconds with the 3.0 reader. Finally I just went for a massive margin to show the difference for anyone out there wondering if they should get one.
