I will be shooting a wedding in September (first wedding), and I wanted to make sure I did well. Figured I could rent some of these lenses (and flashes) before hand and practice with them. Their per day prices are also per weekend prices.

I've seen a bunch of people post about the 24-70 2.8 II IS and also the 70-200 2.8 II IS for wedding shots. I'd have the 5dmk2 as well as a t2i. I currently have the 24-105 f4 L, and was thinking about leaving that on the t2i, and renting one of the two lenses listed here, and putting that on the 5dmk2. But a photographer buddy of mine said the 24-105 wouldn't be fast enough for a wedding (mainly for indoors).

So should I bite the bullet and rent a 2nd body like the 5d3? and what lenses should I rent? one of each? I will have a second photographer there using my equipment.

And what about the flashes? I'm not super proficient with flashes yet (currently using a bower similar to the Canon Speedlite 430ex ii). Would the 580exii or the 600ex-rt be more beneficial? I would be getting the Gary Fong diffusers with it.

5D Mark II | 24-105 f/4 L | 85mm f/1.8 | 50mm f/1.8 | 35mm f/2 | Speedlite 580exII

Lots of threads like this around so you may not get heaps of help. Wedding FAQ has some info.

You need to tell us where things are happening: in a big old dark church, a modern bright church, outside, the reception location, and anything else important.

Suggest:
- 5D3 (or use your 5D2 with the t2i backup)
- 24-70 II for the 5D2 is ideal for most photos. Your 24-105 may be ok, depending on locations. Don't be afraid of ISO6400.
- For most weddings I find a 16-35 type lens invaluable, especially indoors. F4 is fine, the 17-40.
- 70-200 is super helpful for receptions and some wedding party photos. The 24-105 on the t2i is 160mm equivalent, more DOF but has most of the length.

For lighting suggest you have a 580 II or 600 and shoot ETTL. For the reception use high iso, and maybe gel it. I think off camera lighting is beyond what most people should attempt at their first wedding - I consider myself and expert and I don't even use it for some parts of the day - but I use it a lot.

If you do want to do off camera then the 600EX is ideal. Not sure if you need two so you can control it, I've never used one. I use radio triggers.

Forget the tele converters, cords, diffusers, and accessories.

Gear is the least of your worries. Your main issue will be creating great images that require some posing. Suggest you find a good location with a good background, find or create nice light, make the couple comfortable, then shoot. Lines like "just have a minute to yourselves, pretend I'm not here", or suggest a hug, a kiss (lips/neck), a whisper in the ear.

Hope that helps!
