I am having a photography showing this weekend did all my prints on canvas. I am trying to figure out how much I should charge. My prints are: 20x24, 24x24, 20x30, 24x36, and 20x60. This is really my first time showing so I don't want to over estimate the worth of my prints, but also don't want to undersell myself. you can see some of my work here: http://nickmartinophotography.com/gallery/ (external link)

Any thoughts would be appreciated?

nice looking stuff!

it's great to have these type of prints in inventory so that you can do shows, but don't go in expecting to make money off sales. go in expecting to get exposure. sales will be gravy. price to value your work and to let prospects know that you aren't going to give your products and services away.

i'd suggest $250, $300, $400, $500, and $750. maybe even set higher prices and offer a show discount.

keep in mind, pieces like this are priced differently than what you'd price reprints. these are wall art pieces and have greater value. also, your real market could turn out to be a commercial market. for example, a friend of mine just finished decorating an office building with about 15 huge (5'x6') metal prints; the client saw his work in a coffee shop and it was priced upscale (as opposed to arts-in-the-park give-away prices).

good luck!

Quick rule of thumb - Price them at least three times your cost of processing a canvas. If a canvas costs you $100 to process, sell it for $300. Out of the $300 the first $100 is to recover your cost, the second $100 is to replace the canvas, the third $100 is your profit.

really nice quality.. one came with a minor tear in it and they are printing anew one right away, minimal questions asked.

Agreed...at least 3-3.5x times your cost, but remember the higher prices beyond that are generally commanded by those who already have established names..and folks are willing to pay those prices

When it ceases to be fun, it will be time to walk away
