I have a question is it necessary or important in any to use the word "photography" with your name or logo? I just use my name, which I think is enough when I'm watermarking an image my guess is that when people see my images with my name on it they know the image was created by me. Is the word photography a must or just personal preference?
Thanks
Steve

Putting photography on a water mark is like Chevy Ford or Dodge putting "Automobile" on their cars.

I can see the marketing/branding perspective. While it does scream "DUH" if the word photography is on a photo as part of the watermark, for those with a business name that identifies what you actually do- consistency is recommended to help connect your work to your business.

Ive seen examples where "© Oscar Mayer" is not related to "Oscar Mayer Photography", It just happens to have two different people with the same name.

A similar argument can be said for why we have to put "©" before the name. But, for someone who is just a hobby photographer, marketing is not as important. In that case, just the name is good to me.

Looking at Hikin Mikes logo, the logo incorporates the word "images". Thats clear enough what he does, so adding "photography" would be redundant as a watermark.

My watermark is just my name, which is also my website address with a .com at the end, which is easily seen by googling my name thanks to SEO. If people can't tell that photography is my thing from looking at my pictures with my name in the bottom corner, then maybe my shots aren't good enough :p

That's exactly what I've been stressing in another thread here. Be creative and DO NOT under any circumstances use "Photography" under your main logo or name. Be creative and distinguish your services from 10000 other photographers with the same logo. Your image is what will separate you from the crowd and make you stand out prior to even speaking with you.
