LaCie is doing another drawing for free hard drives. This time, it is a 5Big 10TB and a 120GB Rugged Thunderbolt SSD.

Here's the link.

I just want to share my experience with Lacie hard drive.

I had a few of them and all of them had the dead clicks after a few years of very light usage. I would not use those hard drives even they were free.

LaCie doesn't make their own hard drives. They buy Western Digital and Seagate hard drives. They just make enclosures.

I have a Lacie Porche 160gb/FW400/7200 drive that I bought from CompUSA. It's been in use for over 5 years, although over the past year it's gotten less use. It's still going strong with no clicks of death. I use it as a back up for books and magazines. It's in a metal enclosure and can't say who the HDD manufacturer is. As a backup I don't mind keeping it around, yet I keep in mind that it's going to die eventually. Backup, Backup, Backup.
