A friend bought a 128 Gb memory card off ebay formatted with the exfat format for her camera. When she tried to transfer her photos and videos to her PC by using the built-in reader she received a message that she must format the card first. She received the same message when connecting the camera directly via the usb connection. She's at her wits end. Is there a fix for this? Did she purchase a fake card, which I suspect she may have done.

if she bought a memory card on ebay, odds are very likely that it is fake... and most likely is not a 128 Gigs too...

Thanks; that's what I thought. If its too good to be true, then its too good to be true. Can she salvage the photos or should she just fill up the card and use it in a video-frame or tv?

She probably ought to try one of the file recovery programs to see if they can read whatever is on the card. In the future she should always format the card in the camera before she does any shooting.
