Now, this is the first photo I've been genuinely pleased with since I started getting properly into photography a few months ago, and have been happy with how it has been edited, but I'm sure there are some seasoned pros out there who think otherwise. So, what do you like or dislike about it?

Thanks!

I like it generally. I think maybe you went a tad too far with the saturation in the sky. Something unnatural is going on with that dark sport between the clouds on the right. You might want to consider using flickr or another service to host the images and then embed rather than attach them. You can post at higher quality levels that way.

Thanks. Yeah that's a fair point, although I was sort of going for a bit of unreal look (I quite like it for some reason). I struggled with that in all honesty, wasn't sure how to get more detail out of it, it didn't help that the sun was basically about another inch or two to the left of the photo, I think, so there wasn't much light hitting that area.

Ok....?

I thought the focus was about right.

Which bit is blurry?

And yes I know there is too much saturation, but as I said in the comment above I sort of aimed for that to give it a bit of a weird feel.

This was shot on a 650D + 10 - 22 (13mm FL) ISO 100 f/9 1/100

Thanks all the same. Feel free to edit it if you feel you can make it better!

I think if you posted it using the method I suggested above the softness issue might be resolved. To compress something enough to post it here takes a toll on an image. if you host at flickr the file size doesnt matter, only the pixel dimension so you get a higher quality post image. Web compression isnt your friend here.

I was in a bit of a rush before work, and can't quite remember how to embed from flick (don't use it that much!), but here's the link!

What is your subject? I don't find a compelling one when I look at this shot. I see a sky that is busy with branches that add nothing to the shot, overexposed clouds, flat light and more of a busy mess in the middle.

What do you like about the shot? What do you dislike? Why did you take the shot?

I don't always understand/agree with this whole idea of a subject in landscaping, maybe just me being a bit of a novice/opinion. It's a landscape to me so it's about the whole photo, not a subject, but like I say that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I do want to remove the branches, just don't know how to yet in aperture, and I'm not exactly confident enough to do it either without ruining the photo.

But I like all the colours in the shot, and I like the composition of it all as well. I'm quite happy with the framing too.

The idea of the landscape as a whole is fine, but your images will be stronger if you can incorporate a central point of interest to serve as an anchor. Your eye needs an entry point, a place for it to start its path of discovery around the image. A place to come back to if it runs out of points of interest. Finally seeing your image larger the sharpness is okay and whatever oddness was going on in the sky doesnt seem to be an issue. I have to say I dont think the branches in the top work, but I dont know that its worth the effort to try to remove them.
