When shooting sports should my 70-200mm F/2.8 be set on 1.5mm or 3mm?

It seems as if you've just discovered the lens' focus limiter switch.

Canon "L" series telephoto lenses have this feature. The reasoning behind the switch is that limiting the lens' need to search through the entire potential focusing range will speed autofocus response.

The markings on that switch actually refer to focus ranges of 1.2 meters to infinity and 2.5 meters to infinity. The Canon "L" series 70-200m f/2.8 lenses work so quickly to there probably won't be much practical difference between the settings, but the 2.5 meters to infinity setting is a good place to start.
