I signed up on the educator's discount (20 a month) and have thirty days to decide if I want to continue. So far it's legit. You get to download anything they have (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.). Of course, the catch is that you have to continue paying in order to keep the software functional, but it seems legit.

Any of you have experience with it? I think it's normally 50 a month, so I can't see how my 20 a month isn't a great deal. I needed lightroom anyway.

Also, I'm pretty good with Photoshop Elements. How long do you think it will take me to adjust to the full version? Right now I'm still using Elements because...well....I know it.

Thank you. bw!

I do not know about the cloud, I got the Education discount on LR4 and it was only £60 so not expensive compared to the cloud, as I had CS5 anyway. You should have no difficulty going from Elements to full PS. All the tools Elements has will work the same way in full PS, although there will be extra tools for you to learn, and some things that are 8 bit only in Elements will now function in 16 bit as well. I think going the other way from a full version to Elements could be harder, as some things you may be used to using can be missing.

I guess the cloud subscription pricing will depend on how many of the other CS applications you will be using. If you are going to be using Dreamweaver/Illustrator/Premier and all the other bits then the subscription may well work out cost effective in the long run.

We got the Cloud subscription back in August. I think it's a great deal if you use multiple Adobe titles but might not be cost effective if you just use one or two. It's also good if you want to have Adobe software on multiple computers or platforms. The catch there is you can only be signed in to one at a time and you have to be connected to the internet to use the software.

Yes, I like it! I am still in the learning stages for most of them, but I can justify the costs to have access to all the programs. If you use PS or plan to, then you essentially get the program for one year at 1/2 the price of retail and then when they upgrade every year or two you would still be paying, each year, just over what the upgrade would be and that is for just one of the programs.

I have upgraded every time PS has been released since CS3, as well as LR 1.0. So I am saving over the long run and getting to use all the other programs you can use with PS and LR.

Pay $100 to register for MAX (no need to actually attend) and you get a year's membership to Creative Cloud included free.

Looks to me like it says you have to purchase a FULL conference pass to get the Adobe Cloud membership...

I don't like the cloud idea.
If it comes to the cloud being the only way, it will be the end of Adobe products for me.

I am done with Photoshop, even wthout owning one. Thanks, there are smaller softwares around that do what Photoshop does, but in limited areas. I guess, I will buy several of those smaller softwares.

I think the cloud was designed more for Adobe's bean counters than it was for customers. Personally I prefer to own rather than rent.

I almost did. Then I noticed that the 20.00 per month goes up to 49 per month after the first year. I just ordered CS6 from Adorama (missed the 150.00 off darn it). When CS7 comes out will upgrade. Long term this is less expensive.

Depends how many seats you need and for how long you need them.

If you had a project coming up that required maybe 10 seats or more but you normally use only a few it could be worth it. That or for someone who shoots video for a few months and then spends the a few months editing could find value. I can see more potential for professionals to rent then for individuals who likely don't care about having ever new release anyway.

True - if someone is planning on subscribing, and then unsubscribing, only subscribing when they use them - then there is a potential to save.

The cloud is working for me. Slightly higher overall cost than the Production Premium suite I was on (factoring in yearly upgrade costs), but now I have access to all the Adobe apps, which makes it definitely more cost-effective.

Conceptually I don't like the idea of the cloud service (paying a monthly rental fee), but in practice so far, it works very well.
