Is the item a container for a quantity of some useful small object that you want given to you one at a time because the activity for which you need one of them keeps you from having both hands free when you need it?

When the latch is in the open position, can you take the/an enclosed item completely out of the structure (like a case or housing) on which the latch is mounted?

Simple answer is yes. The removed item becomes separated from what you can see .
