Then here's a simpler question. Are we to identify the itty-bitty part in the macro or the thing that could be stored in a big shed?

Is it part of a gearbox ?

It is not part of what the average person would consider a gearbox. It may confuse more than helps, but part of this item is part of an item that could be considered part of a gearbox using the more generic definition of the word.

What you are trying to identify is this item in the state it is in now. It is a little smaller than a two liter drink bottle. The whole item this is part of would be much larger.

A starter motor ?

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.

Yes, this is a starter. The specific part in the shot was taken from is what would have been called the Bendix back before they put solenoids on starters.

The problem with answering OhLook's question with a simple yes or no is because this item is both a part of an engine (motor) and it is also a motor (starter motor) itself.

Rawshorty, it is your turn. Post up the next macro when you have a chance.

Once you started talking semantics with OhLook I figured the anal part out. But in the end it was still an electrical motor and not an engine, though part of.

With your statement that the motor could work without it and then the size if left nothing else i could think of.

If you win you post the next macro

Here it is.
