And I suppose, we need to ask

Is it a marital aid?

Are the ridges for heat exchange?

No heat involved - keep up!

Would it be used in a specific room in the house?

Can I summarize what we know about the ridges.

The ridges are not actually ridges
They are not part of a screw
They do not function to cut or modify another material
They do not grip anything
They are not involved in heat exchange

The device itself is relatively old (use of brass) and is not a life essential (would not replace it)

It is not used in a specific room which seems to eliminate anything cooking related.

It is not used in the garden

It is not a toy

It is used hand-held

I’m running out of ideas. Is it electrical (I don’t think anyone asked this ... apologies if so)

Chris did say it was not electrical or hot.

I also made a list. The item does not contact water in use, has no springs, is not meant to be decorative, is a household item but not very common, is used indoors, is not jewelry, is not a machine, has nothing inside it, is not used to move things, is not used for security. The part shown is a bit bigger than a coin.

That all looks OK.
It doesn't have "ridges".

It's not "old", they're still available.
Nothing to do with energy.
