So the "ridges" were tines?

I showed the picture to my wife, who not having seen the item, immediately said it looked like something with "fingers". I felt therefore that it wasn't misleading.

The "hole" is a flat area to the left of the protruding reversed-C shape. Everything in the image is part of the object.

It's regular old hard plastic. I wasn't aware that Teflon induces chromatic aberration.

Yes, the item would break. The area in the macro is a flat surface with the reversed-C curve as an elevated part.
