This was supposed to be an easy one. -?

Would this sit on a kitchen counter/island/table when being used?

Ed, he answered that one.

Anton, you refer to an area brightened by lighting. Is the real object, then, flatter than it looks, with little or no bulge in the upper (rounded) part?

No, it is a bulge that has the reflection there. It's just not a separate feature, like a tube or a rod.

Kitchen
Handheld
No moving parts
Common
This is the bottom side that's not looked at while in use
Item is not hollow but that term can be associated with it in a different way
This part of it is more or less a continuous reflective surface with a certain shape (which can vary from example to example)
The latest pic has more details than before which to me are a dead giveaway

We're looking at the bottom, but that surface is convex. The curve would make the item unstable if it were set on its bottom like many kitchen things about the same size. For instance, you can't cook in it on a stovetop.

You said it's not strictly hollow, but is it a container of any kind for food, ingredients, or liquid?

It's handheld. It doesn't get set down. The picture shows the entire width of it, which is maybe 12~20mm depending on the particular one. The fuzzy stuff on the side is just a towel holding it in place for the photo.

Have you gone into your kitchen and looked at the underside of common handheld items?

The view shows about 20x20cm of the single, simple, no-moving-parts object.

Please clarify the units.

No. I've only searched my memory for what the bottoms of kitchen things look like. This thing appears to be part metal and part unidentified brown material (the darker parts, not the fuzzy stuff).

Looks like the handle of a cooking pot or saucepan...

Well, it doesn't levitate in storage. Does it perhaps get stored vertically?

New question: Is the dark brown stuff at the top an insulating material?

Gets stored all sorts of ways. How do you store a pencil? Flat, vertically in a small basket, in a pencil clip, dangling from a string, behind your ear... probably not those last few in this case though. Flat or in a holder would be typical.

In this case it's black but it's just more of the same solid object.

Is it often stored in a compartment with others of the same kind?

Is the black stuff insulating material?

And a slightly old question:

Yes. No. And not functionally hollow in any way; not a container. Well, I guess it could be made that way, like a screwdriver can be hollow to store different bits, but no.
