I can't see a bunch of them, just a reflection of furniture or something and several whitish stripes.

Is this an artwork or a decoration?

Maybe you need to treat yourself to a nice new monitor ;) I can't see them very well on the iPad but my good monitor I see them relatively clearly.

Is the purple coloration due to a particular corporate color-scheme?

New monitor isn't possible: this is a laptop. I tried again. Tilting the screen to one particular angle reveals that each whitish stripe ends in a spot just slightly darker than most of the purple. I guess those are what you're talking about. Bulbs on stalks.

Is this thing used to maintain or improve something?

Tilting the screen I can also see a reflection of the kitchen units!

If this is a single row, I am tending towards something like a comb.

Not kitchen, and you are tending the right way
It's not a single row.

And it was my daughter's.

In the reflection you would also have seen the lens and sink.
