It is not a holiday item but is probably used more when the family is together than at other times, so in a way some people may associate it with holidays. Most families would not use this at Christmas time unless they were using it for other uses than the one it was produced for.

In the USA, probably not. Worldwide, probably so. These used to be more common than they are today.

Yes. The lighting makes it look more abrupt than it is, though.
