I was in bed. 5 hrs..
I am at school

And it's a Peacock tail - you're on!!

Well done.
I uploaded a pic to the cloud, I'll go find it.

Feather - alive or dead? It's growing, but like hair, fingernails, not exactly alive.

Colour - I could have picked a bit with red, green, blue, yellow, or a mix

Oh dear that's bad timing, I'm watching Stargate Atlantis with wife and 1st born then it's bed followed by work. So I will take a photo and post it as soon as that's done. However if someone wants to post one before that I won't get upset.

Soz!

PS. It's 7.48 PM now

Stargate :) you could have done a screenshot of the TV, nobody would have guessed it...

Peacock feather -
The original image could have been any colour of the rainbow. I know it's a hackneyed macro subject but they are strange and wonderful close up. Great example of structural colour.

Birds is ruled out almost... Female birds are ruled out. Is it a male bird?

Chris.R wrote in post #18325744 (external link)
Yes it's a male bird.

Now wait just a minute, there! When I asked about egg laying, I was trying to find the place of this kind of creature on the taxonomic tree, not identify the sex of the particular specimen. Birds, spiders, and most insects lay eggs, among others. Your answer was misleading. In any biology book, a statement such as "Some species of snakes lay eggs, and others give live birth" is meant to tell how animals in that group reproduce. It isn't necessary to add "Of course, we speak here only of the females." Only a very dull student would infer that male snakes do one or the other of those things.

This isn't a biology book, it's a series of yes/no answers.
The animal is a peacock. It's not a peahen, the feathers are different.
The dimorphism is crucial here.
Does a peacock lay eggs?
No.

I have no way to know what's in your mind; you could have figured it was a bird and been wondering about the male thing.
If I'd said yes, you'd complain it couldn't be a peacock because they don't lay eggs.

You gotta ask better questions!
Carnivore??? - no it's an omnivore.
So I could have said NO.
But it will eat insects, so I could say YES.

I answered the snow thrower question - the peacock could well have been a frozen mass, enough to smash a snow blower fan.
Or the question could have been referring to the little bit of feather in the picture - no effect.

With luck and how it entered/exited the shoot, it could put an eye out.

Half a millimetre of feather could do that, but it would have to be going fairly fast.
At that speed, snow would be discouraging to any bystander.

"It" wasn't defined - whole animal or what's in the picture...?

Chris, I disagree despite your explanations, just as I disagree that it's proper to call a tooth metal even if it's covered with metal. Giving reasons for my beliefs would do no good.

It's OK, I would expect you to disagree. There's a pattern.

Nobody "called a tooth metal".

I'll call a metal tooth a tooth, and describe it as metal, because it's a tooth, of artificial type, made of metal.

Then was the whole tooth artificial? You earlier said it was a tooth with a crown. Crowns are installed on natural teeth. If the object is entirely metal, it's a false tooth, which is a different thing.

The sentence I just wrote was for illustration.
I was just trying to clarify, faced with another of your rmisquotes.

It was my challenge and I decided it was close enough. As you did with your handle thing.
That's the end of the matter, the game is over.
There really is no point in invoking mythical muggers or other nonsense to justify yet another quibble.

If you think I've misquoted something, please identify the place and I'll try to clear up any discrepancy. I'm not aware of any distortions in my statements.

In my view, the difference between a metal object and an object of another material isn't a quibble, in the context of a game in which players try to figure out what the object is.

Hmm. I take issue here. This game relies on accurate answers. If the question is unclear, then ask for clarification or give multi-interpretation answers to the question.

I know the carnivore question is just an example and we are not editing a biology textbook. However, animals are either carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. An omnivore is not both a carnivore and herbivore.

Back to the peacock question... the answer was misleading. It would have been reasonable to have known by stating no to the answer, the person asking the question or others interpreting the answer would have ruled out an entire class of animals.

Anyway... sorry, Chris.R if it seems like we're bashing you on this. You're new and we're really glad you're participating. We need new blood. I've never really seen OhLook take issue on the answers before.
