Is the black stuff something like leather
or rubber / rubberised cloth?

Too many questions??!!

Sorry, you did ask too many questions. :p

I don't know if there is a hard, fast rule how many questions can be asked, but earlier in the game, most players limited questions to one at a time. Sometimes more questions would be asked, but usually one question lead directly to another when more than one was asked. My unwritten rule is, if you ask so many questions the host loses track of which questions have been answered, you have asked too many.

The black material is a hard plastic similar to what is used on a laptop cover, a remote control, or the frame around a monitor.

Is it part of a closure device,
such as a zipper?

(Two, binary questions - but we are hours apart in time zones!)

The function of this item has absolutely nothing to do with closing anything in any way.

I'll go with neither. I consider it a specialized item but it is common enough that it can be purchased off the shelf from the local Wal-Mart. It is not a domestic item and not really an item a hobbyist would use either. A hobbyist could use it I guess. I imagine most people using this would use it to help earn a living. A hobbyist may use this item at a home based "moonlighting" business if one can consider that a hobby.

Your answer regarding electrical excludes for me any part of a conventional automobile (or motor-bike) engine ... a pity, I was think spark plugs and tappets.

Is this device used to measure or monitor something?

Would they be employed in the area of repair and/or maintenance?

Tire/tyre pressure gage/gauge head, the bit you put on the valve. The metal pin opens the valve. Some are on a pump, some not.
?

This is not a pressure gauge. It does not work on either Presta or Schrader valves even though it probably does get used to relieve pressure from either type of valve by some particular people who check tire pressures.

Either tire or tyre is correct in this case even if it is not a pressure (PSI, Kpa, or Bar) gauge.

An extension piece for same?

Or a converter between types

or a right-angle adapter!

No to all questions. It doesn't have anything to do with the stem or valve. The only relationship to a stem or air valve is some people who air tires up may have this handy so they might use it to let air out of values when it is convenient. More so for a Schrader valve than a Presta.

I'm not sure which parts are right then.

So it's a tool which can be used for letting air out of tyres.
It measures,
But not a pressure gauge.
Presumably that means not indicators, as well.
There's a cross shaped valve core replacement tool but it's not that unless you're being fussy?? They don't measure

There are tools for pulling tubes through rims, but they don't measure.

Is there one on this page? !!

It can be used to let air out of a tyre, but be careful, that is not its intended use.

It could be used to measure indicators, but the average user would not use it for that.

It has nothing to do with valves, tubes, or even rims for that matter.

The item is on that page, but you really have to look for it.
