You said no to food preparation. You also said "It was designed for the food/drink related task." Setting the table, serving, dishwashing–these are among the activities associated with food/drink but not with preparing food.

Fish is not seafood??

I don't know what B-S said, and I have no idea how sunshine fits in.

You asked about "operating upon food". I will be even clearer. According to Miriam-Webster, this item has nothing to do with food.

Has no-one tried googling Brillat-Savarin and sunshine?

So your clues that go all over the place come down to this item has something to do with wine?

I considered that this item had some relationship to wine, but what led me away from that train of thought was the comment about Australia and New Zealand. I checked and both of those countries have wine industries. Why would an item that is associated with wine not be common in those countries?

They are not all over the place! I was being extremely careful to distinguish between food and food/drink.

:idea::idea::idea::idea::idea: wine YES:idea::idea::idea::idea:

So it is an itemrelated to wine, that is not all that uncommon, but is used most commonly by a professional.

Final hint: How does wine produced in in Australia and New Zealand often differ from that from France (hence the Brexit allusion from ChrisR). Your question "Why would an item that is associated with wine not be common in those countries?" is extremely relevant.

Good question, Nogo, and one that occurred to me too.

I suppose Brexit is relevant because it'll slow the influx of the French, those notorious oenophiles. But fish? How is that relevant? Is this item associated only with white wine?

The macro game is getting crazy.

I didn't start the d****d discussion about fish! This item has nothing to do with fish or any item of seafood. Nada. Zero. Null.

NoGo asked if it can be used "for seafood". It cannot.

One can drink wine with fish (not FOR fish). I did. I saw a variation of this tool being used in the process. And no it is not only associated with white wine.

Is the differentiator between the new world and European wines temperature related?

Wine is a food. And it's Merriam-Webster.

Pardon me, sir, but you introduced the fish:

I just ate fish. The sun had been shining. Therefore this tool had been used.

Well, "I just ate fish. The sun had been shining. Therefore this tool had been used" looked like a syllogism, but I couldn't infer anything from it. It turned out that the fish was a red herring.

No .. OhLook asked this.

This item is used before you enjoy the beverage.

Please .. don't start me on punning!

My logic was the following. Answering the seafood question, I said I had fish. Referring to B-S the day was sunny so one must have wine. In order to enjoy the wine, this was used.

Googling Australian wines apparently they are the ones who started using screw top bottle caps instead of corks. Due to that fact, it is possible that this item is used by a wine server who needs to open bottles. I suppose it is very simple to open most Australian bottles of wine, but for the real difficult ones, a tool might be needed.

What tool would that be? My guess would be what we call a pair of Channel Lock pliers over here?

Finally getting there! But following the general trend of this thread you have taken the orthogonal route. This item is more associated with bottles with corks than those with screw caps.
