Is it tapered?

I do not believe so. The part shown is cylindrical.

Chet, you and Bas posted at the same time:

It is not termed a striker but you do have the object correct, it is a lighter. It is the flint wheel on a gas lighter.

Well done. over to you.

Sorry about the use of the term striker. My knowledge of flints proceeds the twenty first century. Back during the last century, I can remember many times building a fire with a flint I knapped myself, a striker (I forged myself), and a ball of tinder (dried dead grass I picked myself). Of course, most of the time I added a pinch of black powder into the tinder to light the hearth. :-D That was a long time ago though. I guess no one calls the steel in a flint and steel a striker anymore.

Moving back into the twenty first century, or maybe just the twentieth, here is the next item.

Is this a manufactured object or material?

That term is relatively generic. The answer is yes.

The shapes of details suggest panning or other camera movement. At the scale shown, does the surface, in reality, give an impression of being covered with round bumps, like tiny beads?

The look is not due to panning but there may be a slight amount of motion blur. A normal view of this item does not look like that. You really need to look very closely to see the texture.

Is it a solid object, rather than a heap of fine particles?

Yes, it is a solid object. My guess is that part of the item was produced from a heap of very fine particles.
