Is it tapered?
I do not believe so. The part shown is cylindrical.

It is the flint wheel on a gas lighter. Well done. over to you. PRONOUN ADVISORY: OhLook is a she. | Comments welcome

It is the flint wheel on a gas lighter. Well done. over to you. https://www.caprishop.com …l-for-clipper-p-3665.html Sorry about the use of the term striker. My knowledge of flints proceeds the twenty first century. Back during the last century, I can remember many times building a fire with a flint I knapped myself, a striker (I forged myself), and a ball of tinder (dried dead grass I picked myself). Of course, most of the time I added a pinch of black powder into the tinder to light the hearth. Philip

At the scale shown, does the surface, in reality, give an impression of being covered with round bumps, like tiny beads? PRONOUN ADVISORY: OhLook is a she. | Comments welcome

The look is not due to panning but there may be a slight amount of motion blur. A normal view of this item does not look like that. You really need to look very closely to see the texture. Philip

Yes, it is a solid object. My guess is that part of the item was produced from a heap of very fine particles. Philip
